Glossy White Fluoropolymer Surface ... Not Paint
I don't use epoxy or acrylic urethane paint. All of my refinishing is completed by chemically bonding a glossy white fluoropolymer surface to the old surface. It is low V.O.C and the odor dissipates in about 1 hour after completion. Most standard size bathtubs will take about 2 to 3 hours to complete and be ready for use the next day at 6:30pm. Fluoropolymer is a polyester coating designed for bathtub and tile refinishing. It has an excellent gloss and is has a life expectancy of over 20 years! All bathtub and tile refinishing in Mesquite TX is completed by me and is also completed using the fluoropolymer surface. All refinishing is chemically bonded by a high quality silane coupling agent. Silane is also used by dentist when bonding to porcelain teeth. It is also used by the aerospace industry when coating high flying aircraft. I mention this because everything I use to complete a bathtub or tile refinishing project in Mesquite TX is applied to achieve a synergistic effect. Each step is just as important as the final step, which will be the surface you see. Silane is so important because as condensation forms the silane under the new surface will activate locking down the new surface even better. This means the catalyst for silane is moisture... which explains why it is a great bonding agent for Dentist working in a mouth full of moisture and for the aerospace industry where aircraft are subjected to temperature fluctuations due to atmospheric conditions and for professional bathtub refinishing that also deals with temperature fluctuation from hot and cold water and from room temperature surfaces exposed to hot or cold water.
Not All Professional Coatings Are The Same Coating
I explained about Silane to also say that not all professional coatings are the same quality. I have performed numerous test on different coatings supplied by different companies. The test involve preparing 9" by 9" porcelain tiles and then coating them with the coatings used for professional refinishing. I allow the tiles to cure for 3 days then I put them in a pan of water that has been heated to 180(f). I leave them in the water maintaining the 160 to 180 degree range for about 45 minutes. Then I let them sit in the water until it has cooled completely and they stay in the cool water for about 4 hours. I have also allowed them to soak for several days before. To keep the test fair I use one coating on one half of a tile and the other half is compared to the fluoropolymer coating I use. Also keep in mind, It too is in my best interest to know the best performing coating because they all cost about the same and I care about my customer getting the very best surface applied! The coatings are all shipped anyway and I can order just as easily from any one of the suppliers. After allowing the tile to dry completely I will wait about 24 hours and use a cross hatch test to see if tape can peel off the surface. It would shock you to see how often it does just just that! The flouropolymer not only withstood a very aggressive crosshatch test unscathed but also stopped a straight razor from trying to pull up the new surface! I filmed it and put it on my youtube Channel
The first page of my main site will explain about Fluoropolymer and the Silane bonding agent.
